The Department of Corrections (DOC), which oversees the operation of the Commonwealth’s adult correctional facilities, operates approximately 50 institutions statewide. During this past quarter century the Department has grown from a modest agency of 5,300 inmates, and 4,100 employees, to an agency of around 31,000 inmates, and nearly 13,000 employees. 2004 marked the 30th anniversary of the creation of the Virginia Department of Corrections.

Virginia Prison and Jail System Virginia has 44 correctional facilities split over three regions (Western, Central, Eastern) across the state.

Board meetings and subcommittee meetings are held at the Virginia Department of Corrections Headquarters, 6900 Atmore Drive, Richmond, Virginia 23225 unless otherwise noted on the schedule. Meetings are open to the public and meeting announcements are posted to the Regulatory Town Hall website. Minutes are taken at each meeting, and approved minutes are posted below.
